Zanger Pastor Donald Gay maakt ook deel uit van de Sirens Records’ muzikanten. Gay is als pionier nog een van de laatste, levende links met Chicago’s gouden eeuw van de gospelmuziek. Pastor Gay is al jaren lid van de Prayer Center Church of God in Christ, een kerk die zijn moeder Fannie Gay in 1959 oprichtte. Als kind trad hij op met zijn drie oudere zussen Evelyn, Mildred en Geraldine, in het Gay Sister Trio. Tussen 1948 en 1973 namen ze enkele invloedrijke gospel albums op bij Decca, Savoy en Chess Records. Donald trad met zijn zussen op in Carnegie Hall en met gospel ikonen Mahalia Jackson en Marian Anderson.

In 2007 nam Donald met zijn zus Gearaldine achter de piano het album ‘Soulful Sounds’ op. Na de dood van zijn zus in 2010, werkte hij regelmatig samen met pianist Cliff Dubose (Albertina Walker, Fontella Bass, Pastor Maceo Woods). Op zijn nieuwe album voor Sirene Records ‘On a Glorious Day’, werkt hij opnieuw met Cliff Dubose samen, die ondertussen solo en als lid van The Dubose Brothers, een legende status opgebouwd heeft. Andere legendes die aan het album meewerkten zijn Richard Gibbs (orgel) en Curtis Fondren (drums). Richard Gibbs is de zoon van gospel legende Inez Andrews (The Caravans). Gibbs werkte al samen met Aretha Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, Mikki Howard, Smokie Norful en Marvin Sapp. Curtis Fondren werkte samen met o.a. Rev. James Cleveland, The Barrett Sisters, Jessy Dixon, Albertine Walker en Dionne Warwick.

Co-producer van het album is zanger Gregory “Juno” Gay, de zoon van de Pastor. Hij is in de achtergrond te horen op twee Gay familie klassiekers “I’m a Soldier” en ”God Will Take Care of You”, een nummer dat Aretha Franklin coverde op haar live album ‘Amazing Grace’ [1972]. Gregory wordt hierbij vocaal ondersteund door Jocelyn Buchanan (soliste van het Christian Tabernacle Choir), Dubose en Elsa Harris (Jessy Dixon, Paul Simon). Elsa Harris zingt ook de backings op “He’s Calling Me”. Glenn Chambers (orgel) en Donald “Bosie” Hambric (gitaar) zijn te horen op de Curtis Fondren & Gregoray Gay original “Another Change”.     

Pastor Donald Gay zal als lid van de Gay familie, bij velen altijd als predikant en gospelzanger in het geheugen gegrifd blijven. Met zijn nieuwe album ‘On a Glorious Day’ bevestigt hij deze status opnieuw.
